A Custom Banquette: Designed for a Busy Family

Designing a space that balances style and durability can be a challenging endeavor, especially for families with young children. When one of our clients approached us with a vision for a custom banquette, we knew it had to be eye-catching while meeting the practical demands of family life.

After weeks of working on the design, selecting a fabric, and addressing the specific needs of this project, we created the perfect banquette for this family.

Stephanie Freeman, Custom Drapery Design’s senior design consultant, oversaw this project, ensuring that every step along the way met the client’s expectations.

“This was such an exciting project overall,” said Stephanie.

The first step in bringing this vision to life was collaborating with the client’s contractor to build the custom banquette. The design needed to fit seamlessly into the pre-existing space while providing ample seating for the whole family, which was essential given that the client has six total family members in the house. 

The client chose a neutral shade for the build of the banquette and requested a few drawers underneath for extra storage, topped with gold handles. Once this was settled, Stephanie presented several fabric options she believed would be a perfect match.

As Stephanie loves working with color, she laid out a variety of shades, patterns, and dyes. After some back and forth, they ultimately landed on Schumacher’s Citrus Garden. A green and white pattern featuring trees, flowers, and butterflies, perfectly aligning with both Stephanie’s and the client’s vision for the project.

But Stephanie didn’t stop there. Keeping in mind the busy family life involving four young kids, she highlighted that this fabric had an indoor/outdoor option, making it ideal for quick clean-ups after spills or accidents. To enhance functionality further, we finished off the banquette with a matte lamination, providing an additional layer of protection.

Once everything was built and the fabric was ready, the project truly came together! It became the perfect modern seating arrangement that is kid-friendly and stylish!
